Indeed, April Showers Brought May Flowers

Once a month, creative arts specialist Donna Welsh enters the building of Juniper Village at Mount Joy with tenderness and excitement. On Tuesday, May 9, 2017,  Donna brought tissue paper, plain white paper, and markers. What was created from those simple objects was all but magic-blooming flowers! Everyone worked hard on this particular project by meticulously crumpling up and gluing the tissue paper, then adding a green stem. Residents in the Wellspring Department beam from ear to ear once their projects are displayed on the Garden Gallery Wall for all to enjoy! Oh what fun it is to see the area filling up with spring and good cheer.

Habla Espanol? Happy Cinco De Mayo!

May 5th, 2017 at Juniper Village at Mount Joy was filled with maracas, piƱatas, and music! The day was kicked off with Sombrero Silverfit in which residents were encouraged to wear hats and necklaces while enjoying a festive exercise program. In the early afternoon residents had the opportunity to learn Spanish or brush up on what they already knew of the language. Mike L. continued the excitement by providing musical entertainment during a themed Happy Hour. After the fiesta some individuals had to take a siesta, there was just so much to celebrate and participate in!

We are all a Superhero!

Friday April 28th was a day of action, power, and discovery. With it being National Super Hero Day each individual was reminded of the power and worth they have to contribute to others. Residents were encouraged to share and build upon their superpowers by creating their own personal super hero capes. A Super Happy Hour, including Caricatures and Balloon Animals done by Characters with Character, provided lots of laughs and looks of amazement. The day was filled with various activities for all to enjoy. Each of us has a valuable asset that needs to be unleashed every so often, what a joy it was to fly high on this special day!

Associate Appreciation Week

Anne M. Mulcahy  (former CEO of the Xerox Corporation and voted ‘CEO of the Year 2008’ by Chief Executive Magazine) once said “Employees are a company's greatest asset - they're your competitive advantage. You want to attract and retain the best; provide them with encouragement, stimulus, and make them feel that they are an integral part of the company's mission”.

During the week of April 24th, 2017 Juniper Village at Mount Joy celebrated Associate Appreciation Week. The week was filled with dress down days, spin the wheel prizes, raffles, and lots of food. Each day of the week employees were provided encouragement and stimulus. Monday was celebrated with maple donuts, Tuesday with Starbucks Frappuccino, Wednesday with Isaacs’ sandwiches, Thursday with Rita’s Italian Ice, and Friday with bagels. Friday, National Superhero Day, was the grand finale of associate appreciation week in which every individual was reminded of the power they have to make the world a better place!

Juniper Village a Mount Joy welcomed all employees to participate in celebrating their integral part in nurturing the spirit of life! We are truly grateful for each associate and the tremendous ways that they contribute to our Juniper family.

May 2017 Events in Mount Joy, PA: Grow Strong Daily

Continuing our Spring Alive In All Seasons focus on healthy again, we continue to let wellbeing thrive with a May focus on Fitness. Staying fit throughout all seasons of life is possible and at Juniper we promote fitness every day of the week! We recently shared on our Facebook page a New York Times story, authored by Gretchen Reynolds, providing results from the Mayo Clinic who recently conducted an experiment on the cells of 72 healthy but sedentary men and women who were 30 or younger or older than 64. The volunteers were randomly assigned to a particular exercise regimen. There were some unsurprising differences: The gains in muscle mass and strength were greater for those who exercised only with weights, while interval training had the strongest influence on endurance. But more unexpected results were found in the biopsied muscle cells. It seems as if the decline in the cellular health of muscles associated with aging was “corrected” with exercise, especially if it was intense, says Dr. Sreekumaran Nair, a professor of medicine and an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic and the study’s senior author. In fact, older people’s cells responded in some ways more robustly to intense exercise than the cells of the young did. So pick up those weights, get on that bike and remember it’s never too late to benefit from exercise. And if you’re not doing so already, follow us on social media so you don’t miss a thing.

We invite you to Grow Strong Daily along with us with programs such as Fitness Five and our Route 66 Walking Program. Learn more about fitness and keeping your heart healthy at our Heart Healthy Luncheon and educational presentation. Staying fit throughout all seasons of life is possible.
